Process
Our club, Girls Build LA, met once a week throughout our fall semester. During the second semester we met twice a week. During our meetings we had an agenda that helped maintain our time structured and focused. In order to increase our clubs motivation and bond we planned a retreat at The Getty Villa, followed by lunch during our second semester.
December 2018
- We finalized our survey and interview questions
- We created a database for resources for women that have been affected by violence against them
- Continued to add and work on the website
January & February 2019
- We planned our retreat for the month of March
- Gathered participants for our audio and video interviews
- Reached out to community organizations to begin planning our Spring Into Action event
March 2019
- Attended the retreat
- Conducted interviews and surveys
- Received 66 survey responses
- Conducted 10 interviews
April 2019
- In collaboration with the Class of 2020 Committee, East Side Riders Bike Club, The Kind Cut, and The Reverence Project we hosted our Spring into Action Event
- Some of the members of our club and club advisors attended "Survivors Speak 2019" in Sacramento, CA
- The event was aimed towards homeless individuals in our community, but opened to everyone
- In addition to free clothes for women in our booth we had brochures with statistics on violence against women and with quotes and poems from the women we interviewed
- Finalized the website

Outcome
We had a great outcome starting with recruiting members to come to our weekly meetings. We were also able to create great relationships with community partners, they have provided us resources to help women who have survived crimes and acts against them.
Short term outcomes:
Presentations- We surveyed then presented to all members of our school, we have approximately 530 students on our campus. Out those students, 66 students participated in our survey.
Social media- We have 115 followers
Our IG: @simon_tech_girls_build_la
Long Term Outcomes
We were able to raise the voices of women who have survived emotional and physical abuse against them. Through our project we gave them the courage to speak up, for many this was the first time. We plan to keep expanding on this project by continuing to raise awareness through storytelling and sharing oral histories.
Due to the success of our Spring Into Action our school has decided to have this event every quarter to support our community needs.
